Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment

The implementation of Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment is an effort to create a safe, healthy, and prosperous work environment—free from workplace accidents and occupational diseases, as well as free from environmental pollution—aimed at increasing productivity as mandated by Law No. 1 of 1970 on Work Safety.

Workplace accidents not only cause fatalities and material losses for workers and employers, but can also disrupt the entire production process and damage the environment, ultimately impacting the wider community.

In carrying out all plant operations, PT Kaltim Parna Industri has established a documented procedure that explains the mechanisms for identifying hazards and environmental aspects, as well as for assessing and controlling risks and environmental impacts that may arise—or potentially arise—from the processes involved in the production of ammonia.

All personnel who have a working relationship with PT Kaltim Parna Industri, including subcontractors and visitors, are provided with information and are required to always comply with the regulations in force at PT Kaltim Parna Industri and all applicable laws and regulations, as well as other requirements serving as references and/or national and international standards related to quality, safety, occupational health, and the environment.

Emergency Response Team

PT Kaltim Parna Industri is an asset that, in its operations, needs to be safeguarded and protected against the possibility of fires, explosions, workplace accidents, environmental pollution, and other harmful incidents. To address these risks, PT Kaltim Parna Industri has formed a dedicated Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Emergency Drill

Emergency response training activities (emergency drills) at PT Kaltim Parna Industri are scheduled, organized, and managed by the QSHE unit.

In order to improve and develop occupational safety and health efforts within the company, continuous and targeted guidance is carried out through the establishment of the Occupational Safety and Health Advisory Committee (P2K3).

Greening and Environmental Program

The basic concept of this program is to foster public awareness and concrete actions regarding the importance of environmental conservation.

Education and Training Programs

Education is a vital bridge to prosperity. Unfortunately, economic constraints often cause people to pay less attention to education.

Wana Khatulistiwa

Wana Khatulistiwa, with an area of 8 hectares, was inaugurated and has been managed by KPI since 2012, and by the end of 2016 approximately 3,500 trees had been planted, consisting of various species, particularly those native to Kalimantan: Bangkirai, Ulin, Gaharu, Pulai, Meranti, Mahoni, as well as a variety of local fruit trees such as Manggis, Lai, Rambutan, Durian, Wanyi, and Pasak Bumi.

Currently, plant maintenance includes weeding, fertilizing, and watering during the dry season. In terms of infrastructure, a water well is available, including a clean-water storage tank to supply bathrooms and to water plants during the dry season.

In addition, a 6 x 4 meter gazebo has been constructed, utilizing reclaimed ulin (ironwood) from the plant and built on a self-help basis by the Urban Forest guards. It is hoped that the presence of the gazebo and the completeness of this plant collection will enhance the existing infrastructure, making it suitable to be developed as an extracurricular learning site for students about native Kalimantan plants. It is planned that in 2017, the collection will be increased by another 1,000 trees, with a focus on adding wetland species and herbal plants.

PT Parna Raya

PT Parna Raya is a national private enterprise established on June 7, 1972 by Mr. Marihad Simon Simbolon, with its initial line of business in land transportation, starting with a single truck delivering goods to Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta.

That single truck then grew into a fleet of 125 semi-trailers and rigid trucks. The transport business also expanded into maritime shipping for the delivery of cement and fertilizer.

By the mid-1990s, PT Parna Raya established an ammonia plant (PT Kaltim Parna Industri) through a collaboration between PT Parna Raya, an affiliate of PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur, and several foreign investors from Japan.

Today, PT Parna Raya has a number of subsidiaries and affiliates engaged in land transportation, sea transportation, general trading, gas transmission via pipelines, petrochemicals, hospitality, mining, energy, palm oil plantations, and fuels.

Marching on the right path.
