Ammonia product that used commercially is called anhydrous ammonia. This term indicates the absence of water in the material. Design concentration of ammonia in the KPI is 99.90%, but in reality KPI managed to make ammonia concentrations up to 99.97%.

Ammonia process begins with the preparation to vanish the sulfur in the natural gas. Sulfur will affect and poison the catalyst in the primary reformer unit. Then to get the hydrogen, we have to break the carbon chain in primary reformer and secondary reformer. Nitrogen which is coming from the air will be in gas stream starting from secondary reformer and it will not reactive until it reach ammoniac reactor.

Natural gas that contain carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) which will break the catalyst in ammoniac reactor have thru removal unit in order to process the purity. The leftover carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) have to be reacted in methanator unit before they enter the ammonia reactor as the main process of ammonia so we can get very pure gas and have high level of efficiency of ammonia product.

With it’s composition of Hydrogen and Nitrogen 3:1 will react and result ammonia (NH3) in the ammonia reactor.

Furthermore thru synthesis and refrigeration process becomes ammonia liquid. This ammonia liquid will store in a tank in -33 °C temperature.
